And our journey through it.
The Power of God's Word
Thank You God, for this wonderful day of being alive to hear, know, and understand Your Word.
As I was writing the last paper, ‘What God’s Word Does’ I started to think: that is the “end product” of God’s Word—how did it begin? This is what God gave me in answer to that question.
Back in the Old Testament in Isaiah Chapter 59 verse 21 it tells how God spoke to Isaiah to give him the ‘Inspiration of God’s Word.’ (II Timothy 3:16: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.)
Isaiah 59:21
“As for Me,” says the Lord, “This is My covenant with them (Israel): My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendant’s descendants.” says the Lord, “from this time and forward.” (The Old Covenant Law and the Bible.)
Now Church, the Old Covenant was to SET the laws, to tell us right from wrong. And the Old Covenant’s Sacrifices were ‘with the blood of bulls, and goats and ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh.’ ‘It was all symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience—concerned only with foods and drink, various washings and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.” (Hebrews 9:9-10)
Hebrews 9: 11;14-15
“But Christ came as High Priest of the good things that have come with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.” So “how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.”
Church, when we became ‘Born Again Children of God’ we were made clean through Christ and are now able to have all God’s Promises and the Promise of eternal inheritance. Once we trust and believe in those promises through Christ we are to move on “in confidence” to carry them out through The Word and the Holy Spirit “IN” us which IS the Power and Authority to do all things. But WE have to know, believe, and trust in the Power of the Word. Jesus Himself had to use the written word against Satan when being in the wilderness for forty days and forty nights He was hungry. What happens?
Matthew 4: 3-4
“Now when the “tempter” came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
Jesus, could have done that in a blink of an eye, but that would have been to give into the temptation of the flesh. There is a LOT of that going on in the world. It is called SELFISHNESS. What I see, feel or hear, I covet. We take control out of God’s Hands to please ourselves. Giving no thought to the One who created us and Loves us enough to take care of us. How did Jesus answer the devil and the “maker” of SIN?
Verse 4:
“But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”
In the second temptation the devil tried a different tactic by quoting the scripture himself. (God’s Word is TRUTH) But Saints, the devil took the TRUTH from scripture out of content and put it to a “self” thing again. Jesus “NEVER” let His fleshly body or fleshly mind overrule His Spiritual Self. (Just as we have a physical body covering our spirit body.)
Now again, what was Jesus’ response to the enemy of our souls?
Matthew 4:7
“Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘you shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”
In the third temptation the devil tried to bribe Him with wealth and self pride. Again the devil is trying to work through our physical existence and self satisfaction, he is only allowed to tempt in those areas, because he has “NO” control over a “Born Again Heart.” (Unless “WE” give it to him.) Can we believe that Church? I pray so!
Jesus’ answer in this last temptation is crucial to us, Saints. Listen closely.
Matthew 4:10
“Then Jesus said to him, ‘AWAY with you (or get behind Me), Satan!’ For it is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him “only” you shall serve.”
A lot of us quote that second part of the scripture, BUT what about the first part of what Jesus said (Out loud)? “GET BEHIND ME, SATAN.”
As the Son of God, (just like we are the Children of God) Jesus takes the Power and Authority given to Him by His (our) Father to rebuke and banish Satan. How awesome is that, Church! God’s Power and Authority has been given to us (His Children) to use for God’s Glory!!!
Can we have the Faith and confidence within ourselves to take God’s Promises (The Word) and gifts of Blessings (salvation) into our hearts and use them for God’s Plan for the world? YES!
