And our journey through it.
SWORD OF THE SPIRIT
The whole Bible, which is God’s Word, agrees with itself. From the beginning to the end just as Jesus said of Himself, “I am Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end” (Revelations 1:8 + 22:13); so our past, present and future exists in His Word, it’s all there in scripture. For example, in the Book of Ephesians chapter 6 verse 17 it tells us this:
“And take the helmet of salvation and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
I’ve written on Ephesians chapter six before when I talked about the Armor of God. Remember about putting on the Armor of God in verses 10 through 17? If you don’t, please go back and reread His Word again to refresh your memory. It tells us how we are to protect ourselves against the scheming of the devil. (Awesome reading especially verse 12). And as I mentioned back then all the things that God gave us was for our protection except in verse 17 where it mentioned the sword which is a defense weapon.
So Saints, we are protected when we, in faith, put our Spiritual Armor on. Our only enemy is spirit, Satan, so our protection is in the Spirit. Satan is ultimately after our souls not our physical body, which he can hurt and torment “if” we allow him to.
This is where our Sword comes in at. What is our Sword of defense? Yes! Jesus, Who “is” the Word of God. Let’s go to Hebrews and look at what it says about the connection of God’s Word and the Sword.
Hebrews 4:12
“For the Word of God (Revelations 19:13) is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, (Revelations 1:16) piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Church, God’s Word, our Sword, gives us the Power and Authority we need in our everyday life—God’s Life “in” us.
The Bible was written centuries ago yet as I said in the beginning of this paper; it agrees with itself and tells about our past, present and future. No one could have known all that except our Creator, Himself. That lifts my faith!
Now Saints, throughout the Bible most versions have references to other parts of God’s Word. In verse 12 in Hebrews 4 there are four references; I’d like to mention all of them so we can see how God’s Word is in unity. The first one is in Psalms 147:15 and 107:20:
“He sends out His command to the earth; His Word runs very swiftly.
“He sent His Word (Jesus Christ-John 1:1) and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”
Remember, Psalms is in the Old Testament before Jesus even came to earth. These two references were put to the words “living and powerful” in Hebrews 4:12.
The next word that had a reference to it was “sharper”, again from the Old Testament in Isaiah.
Isaiah 49:2 (in part)
“And He (God) has made my mouth like a sharp sword.” Isaiah was talking about himself here in these verses. God had called Isaiah to be His Voice, just like we are supposed to be in this day and age.
The next words with a reference, in the New Testament, are our starting words in Ephesians 6:17:
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”
Last, but not least, is “Who” the Sword of the Spirit is, the Holy Spirit “in” us. The words “is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”, is referenced back to I Corinthians 14: 23-25. In verses 7-25 in Chapter 14 of I Corinthians it is talking about ‘the Gift of tongues’ which is how our spirit communicates with God’s Spirit. Verse 15 says, “I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind.” I believe “tongues” (heavenly language) is one way God can communicate with our spirit; but God also communicates with us through many means to reach our understanding.
To get a full understanding, verses 7-25 needs to be read, but our reference was to verses 23 through 25. I’ll be quoting from the Expanded Version Bible.
I Corinthians 14: 23-25 (in part)
“Suppose the whole church meets together and everyone speaks in different languages. If some people come in who do not understand or are unbelievers, they will say you are crazy.
But suppose everyone is prophesying and unbelievers or those who do not understand come in. If everyone is prophesying their sin will be shown to them, and they will be judged by all that they hear. The secret things in their hearts will be made known. So they will bow down and worship God saying, “Truly, God is with you.”
O.K. Church, let’s put it all together now. What is the Sword of the Spirit? It’s the “Word” of God. Who is the “Word” of God? Jesus, God’s Son. How does God communicate with His People? By His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, which is “in” all who have given their hearts/souls to Him to keep forever. And Church, this includes our minds, bodies, and definitely our wills, for it is our wills that say “Yes or No” to God. God has given us our “free” wills to make choices with, and a TRUE choice is a choice for our God.
So let’s choose to take up our “Sword of the Spirit”, God’s Word-Jesus Christ, and fight the enemy with TRUTH from God’s Word. We have All the Power and Authority we need through God’s Word and that two edged sword, to make a difference in our lives as well as others lives for the Glory of God!
Action is needed now; it’s too close to the “taking away” for us to be lack-luster and sitting on the fence. The Power and Authority we have with the “Sword” is all we need to keep on the path for God and Gods Plan for us.
Pray, read God’s Word, listen to the Spirit “in” us and then with confidence take the Power and Authority we already have as His Children, through Jesus’ Blood sacrifice, to take back what the enemy has tried to steal from God’s Plan for His Children. How? As ALWAYS by:
