And our journey through it.
Spring Cleaning
Good morning Church; another Spring is almost upon us this year. And as the seasons change into a new awakening in the earth so it needs to be within ourselves. Spring is usually the time of year we all start opening up our houses and start coming out of the Winter shut-up. We open up our houses and let the fresh air of Spring come in to clear out the dark, damp gloom of the Winter months.
How about we think in terms of a physical/spiritual cleaning also. Let’s call it ‘a Spring Cleaning for the Christian.’ Interesting concept don’t you think?
I don’t know where I heard the quote or who quoted it but it seems appropriate for this lesson: “a changed heart means a changed room.”
Just as we open windows and clean out the cob webs from the rooms in our house we can also do this for ourselves. A renewal of our hearts and minds for Christ at the same time of our celebration of Christ’s Death and Resurrection of our souls; Easter.
First let’s change our rooms (hearts/minds) around and get rid of the old, useless, unworthy things that can hold us down. (Sweep out, dusting out, washing out all useless, unproductive items that may cause a burden on us.)
Second, once it is clean (repentance) fill it with new, functional, trustworthy things from Christ that has the Power and Authority to keep us uplifted and rooted and grounded in God’s Love for us.
Colossians 3:16
“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching, and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
Now also with that spiritual up-lift we need to pray the ‘prayer of realization’ to acknowledge where we stand in relationship with our Father.
In Ephesians chapter 3 verses 14-21 is a prayer for just such an occasion; but I think we need to “personalize” this prayer of Paul’s for ourselves. We aren’t changing the prayer but taking the prayer a step further and making it “our own” prayer.
Ephesians 3:14-21
“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father, (of our Lord Jesus Christ) from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant (me) you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might though His Spirit in (my) inner man, that Christ may dwell in (my) your hearts through faith; that (I) you, being rooted and grounded in Love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the Love of Christ, which passes knowledge; that (I) you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works “in” us,(Holy Spirit) to Him be glory in the Church by Christ Jesus through out “ALL” ages, world without end.” (Romans 11:36) AMEN.
Saints, this is the scripture we can set up after we get ‘our room’ (heart/minds) all cleared out from the useless, unproductive thoughts that keep "TRYING" to come in daily. We CAN be filled with the fullness of God’s Love, Church.
